You've probably seen him on television as a commentator on many of this generation's most sensational legal cases -- from the contested 2000 presidential election to Clinton-Lewinsky to O.J. Simpson.

Jeffrey Toobin, legal analyst for CNN and writer for the New Yorker, is the keynote speaker Saturday at the Scholarship Gala put on by the Minnesota Association of Black Lawyers (MABL) Foundation.

Among Toobin's literary credits: "Too Close to Call: The Thirty-Six-Day Battle to Decide the 2000 Election," "A Vast Conspiracy: The Real Story of the Sex Scandal That Nearly Brought Down a President," and "The Run of His Life: The People v. O.J. Simpson."

His latest book is just out: "The Nine: Inside the Secret World of the Supreme Court."

The gala, which helps finance the MABL's scholarships, will be held at the Marriott City Center in downtown Minneapolis. Tickets are only sold in advance.

Through its foundation, the MABL annually selects law students throughout Minnesota to receive scholarships.

The MABL makes its choices, according to its website, based on "outstanding academic achievement, commitment to addressing issues affecting their community, and potential to effectuate the overall goals of the organization."
