With a nod to my buddy Kent (a big Who fan)....

The Wolves could see for Miles and Miles and Miles in Wednesday night's resounding loss at Utah.

Of course, C.J. Miles, that is.

On Friday, the Wolves thumped the Jazz real good at Target Center.

On Wednesday, the Jazz got their payback when Miles -- a sixth-year guard who came straight to the NBA from the same Dallas high school that produced Larry Johnson -- scored a career-high 40 points.

That's 11 points better than any other night in his NBA career.

He torched Micheal Beasley mostly for 18 first-quarter points and had 25 by halftime.

Kurt Rambis sent Beasley, Wes Johnson, Wayne Ellington and Martell Ellington out after him at different times tonight and nothing worked against a guy who made 14 of 18 shots, including 6 of 7 from three pointers.

On Friday, the Wolves made their first 11 shots.

On Wednesday, Miles couldn't miss.

The Wolves also could stop the Jazz -- particularly their former pal Al Jefferson -- from taking the ball to the hoop with impunity.

The Jazz scored 62 points of their 119 in the paint.

Some of the stuff Rambis said after the game:

"Our effort and energy and defense was abysmal. They got the crowd involved. They're fighting for something and they just did a really good job executing. They scored 60 points in the paint. You're not going to give yourself a very good chance to win."

The Wolves trailed by as many as 26 points before halftime after they got clobbered 36-18 in the second quarter before they got within 10 twice early in the fourth quarter.

"We got ourselves back in the ballgame," said Rambis, whose team could get no closer than those 10 points and then trailed again by 22 before it was all over. "When you dig yourself such a deep hole, then you spend the entire second half trying to fight your way out of it. And our guys run out of energy.

"At some point in time, we lose our focus. It's too deep a hole. We've got to do a much better job getting off to a better job. Guys have to put some focus into the defense. That's the message we're sending them."

The Wolves won back-to-back games by more than 20 points at home last week, the franchise's first consecutive 20-point victories in a decade.

Then they go to Golden State Sunday and Utah Wednesday and got thumped in both games.

"They had two ballgames in a row where they did a great job defensively and they moved the ball," Rambis said. "Then the last two games, our defense disappeared and ball movement stopped and this is a result of it."

But, hey, Kevin Love stated another double-double streak.

That is, if you consider one a streak.

That 53-game streak ended Sunday in Oakland, but Wednesday he went for 22 points and 11 rebounds.

Here's the game story from the game and a few other notes tacked on as well.

That's it from Salt Lake City.

The Wolves flew to L.A. after the game and will practice there Thursday before playing the Lakers Friday night.

That Lakers game kicks off a murderous stretch here as the schedule winds now.

After playing Sacramento at home on Sunday, the Wolves have these teams coming up:

Dallas, Oklahoma City, Boston, Chicago and Miami.

Good luck!
