Vikings vice president of player personnel Rick Spielman said on Tuesday that his team will conduct private workouts with some of the top quarterback prospects in the coming weeks before the draft.

Apparently, Heisman Trophy winner Cam Newton is on the list.

NFL.com's Gil Brandt reported Wednesday that Newton's father, Cecil, said his son has private workouts with six teams, including the Vikings. Brandt reports that the workouts will be led by each team's head coach at an undisclosed location.

Here is the story.

Newton received positive reviews after his pro day workout Tuesday after struggling in passing drills at the NFL Scouting Combine. All 32 teams had coaches and/or scouts in attendance.

The Vikings hold the No. 12 overall pick but most draft experts believe he will be gone by that point. The other teams scheduled to hold private workouts with Newton, according to his father, are the Carolina Panthers, Buffalo Bills and Washington Redskins. Cecil Newton did not name the other two teams.

The Panthers (No. 1 overall) , Bills (No. 3) and Redskins (No. 10) all pick ahead of the Vikings.
