If it's March, it's maple syrup time at Elm Creek Park Reserve in Maple Grove. Volunteers are drilling holes in the sugar maples along the park trails in hopes of filling a bucket with the slow-moving sap by the end of the month. On Sunday, volunteer John Probst led families, including this 4-year-old park visitor, through the woods, pointing out the "belly button" markings left on the trees from last year's tapping.
