Is Minnesota’s former governor running for president?
Or is there a “Tim Pawlenty: The Movie” out there waiting to hit theaters?
It’s hard to tell after looking at the new video out promoting Pawlenty’s new book “Courage to Stand.’’
This slickly produced spot looks far more like a movie trailer for the next blockbuster flick than a book promo or political ad.
From opening scenes featuring golden-lit clouds, dramatic yet somewhat threatening music plays as Pawlenty speaks of American exceptionalism and the hard work ahead.
Emotional images show Olympic victories, the space walk, the civil rights movement, George Washington and the Iwo Jima flag-raising – all mixed with footage of Pawlenty from the National Press Club and other appearances.
Wide-eyed children look deeply into the camera as Pawlenty intones “Humans cannot reach their potential, cannot realize their dreams unless they’re free.’’
The movie trailer, er.. book promo has generated a lot of publicity — a good thing when your book’s Amazon sales rank is 4,469.
Huffington Post asked “Is he trying to sell books? Or is he really the last hope for humanity?”
But it was local blogger and writer Brian Lambert of MinnPost.com who had the best riff of all. “By the look of the trailer, if the Rooskies ever rise up again, or if we need the planet defended from space aliens, the guy we’re calling is …Tim Pawlenty.’’
It doesn’t say if it’s coming to DVD soon. But it sure looks like it should be.
Our suggested title? The "Timinator."
