Anyone who has ever shopped Menards in Golden Valley knows what a disorganized pile it has become. I didn't shop there very often, but I always chuckled at the unmarked sinkhole, er, low spot in the middle of the store floor where I almost tripped every time. Hal, another shopper who laughed every time he shopped there, said that he wanted to wash his hands every time he left the store.

The store has been open for more than 30 years. Prior to that, a car dealership occupied the location.

But all of the store's ramps and stairs and disorganization won't keep me from the remodeling sale that starts Saturday, Jan. 15. Everything* will be discounted 15 percent except items that are already on sale in the fliers. The store is expected to close Feb. 15 to be torn down and a new, larger store built on the same location. Watch for discounts to increase as the closing date nears.

What's the best stuff to shop for at a time like this? Items that never or rarely go on sale such as specialty light bulbs, filters and parts. Take a look around your house and make a list of things you need. Saturday hours are 6:30 a.m. to 10 p.m.

Fifteen percent off might not sound like much, but Menards is already a low price leader. This is a good bargain opportunity. Anyone else willing to say what they'll be shopping for (before everyone else gets it )?
