The clock is ticking on whether Brett Favre will be able to play Sunday in the Vikings' regular-season finale at Detroit and right now time is not on his side. Favre, attempting to return from a concussion suffered on Dec. 20 against Chicago, failed his most recent baseline neurological exam on Wednesday and it's not certain he will take the test again today. Interim coach Leslie Frazier said the "cut-off for sure" will be Saturday. That makes sense given Favre is simply trying to pass Stage 1 of a test that also includes a conditioning element. Favre did not pass the test in time to play in Tuesday's game at Philadelphia. "We'd like for him to take," the test again today, Frazier said. "That's based on what the doctors recommend. But we'd like for him to take it, sure." Asked to elaborate on why Favre might not take the test again today, Frazier said: "One of the things that has to happen … our medical staff has to feel comfortable that the time in between is the right time. There's a reason that you don't do it twice in the same day. So, they'll explain to me why we'll need to take it either [today] or [Friday] and we'll go from there." Right now, Favre isn't even eligible to take part in a walk-through under the NFL's rules for when a player can return from a concussion. Frazier said he has not been told by the doctors what grade of concussion Favre suffered. If Favre can't get a favorable score on the test until Saturday, he would then do the conditioning element at some point. "Our medical guys would give me a heads-up on what would be the next step in whether or not he'd have time to be able to be cleared in that case," Frazier said. Favre has said Sunday's game will be the last of his 20-year career. If he can't start, Joe Webb will be under center for the second game in a row. Favre did not address the media for the second consecutive Wednesday. He had not missed a mid-week news conference until last week. Etc.

  • The Vikings are in shorts today and will just go through a walk-through practice. The list of players who won't take part include Favre; wide receiver Sidney Rice (concussion); safety Madieu Williams (concussion); fullback Naufahu Tahi (left ankle); and Erin Henderson (concussion). Cornerback Asher Allen (abdomen) said he is fine and was on the field.
