About Bill Pohlad
- December 26, 2010 - 6:43 AM
Current role: CEO, River Road Entertainment, a movie-production company
Degree: Accounting and economics, Gonzaga University (1978)
Home: Minneapolis, Lake of the Isles neighborhood
Family: Wife Michelle, one child
Professional experience: Tried screenwriting after college and then formed his own production company to make corporate films and commercials for clients including Northwest Airlines, Musicland and Sam Goody. He opened River Road Entertainment in 1987, eventually producing the lauded films "Brokeback Mountain," "A Prairie Home Companion" and "Into the Wild." He will direct his next film project, a Sean Penn vehicle called "Genius," about the relationship between author Thomas Wolfe and editor Max Perkins. There's been one setback for Pohlad. Earlier this year, his fledgling film distribution company, Apparition, lost a key partner, and Pohlad was forced to cut staff to bare-bones.
Reflections: "That was my dad's influence [the decision to study accounting and economics]. It was good to have something to fall back on."
