About Bob Pohlad
- December 26, 2010 - 6:41 AM
Current role: Oversees several Pohlad-owned companies including JB Hudson Jewelers; Twin Cities Automotive, which includes BMW of Minnetonka and two former Denny Hecker dealerships; Marquette Real Estate Group, and Marquette Financial Cos.
Degree: Political science, Arizona State University (1976)
Home: Edina, Interlachen neighborhood
Family: Wife Rebecca, three children
Professional experience: Pohlad worked at a Pepsi bottling plant in Tulsa, Okla., where his dad was a partner. From there, he went to a larger Pepsi distributor in Portland, Ore., and when that was sold, he returned to Minneapolis to create and build publicly traded PepsiAmericas through mergers. PepsiAmericas was sold to PepsiCo earlier this year for $2.12 billion, netting a reported $383 million to be used, in part, for investing in existing Pohlad companies and potential new ones.
Reflections: "I had a job offer with Sen. [Hubert H.] Humphrey and was convinced that I wanted to take that. But my dad said maybe I would be better off learning business first and doing politics later in life."
