Brett Favre is working off a gut feeling in his decision to give it a try to see if he can play in tonight's game against the Chicago Bears at TCF Bank Stadium on the University of Minnesota campus.

Favre was upgraded from "out" on the injury report to "questionable" -- a huge jump on game day because it means that there is now a 50 percent chance he will play -- today by the Vikings. He will try to throw before the game but it's unclear if that will happen on the field or inside the bowels of the stadium. Favre has been sidelined because of an injured throwing arm and numbness in his passing hand.

It's an interesting decision considering interim coach Leslie Frazier said Friday that rookie Joe Webb would start this game and also said that while Favre threw the ball before Friday's practice that the pain was "just too excruciating right now." Favre, in fact, was believed to actually want to go on injured reserve because he believed his season was finished after his NFL-record consecutive starts streak came to an end last Monday night against the Giants in Detroit.

Favre talked with ESPN's Ed Werder today and admitted he is skeptical but curious, adding his shoulder feels significantly better and the numbness in his right hand has subsided, but he still has tingling in his fingers.

Favre plans to be on one of the first Vikings buses that arrives at TCF Bank Stadium. Favre is always on an early bus when he plays and one tip off to the fact he would not play last Monday was he showed up on a later bus.

If Favre is able to play in this game, Joe Webb will become the backup and Patrick Ramsey would be declared the No. 3 or emergency quarterback. We're told that the Vikings are working to sign quarterback Rhett Bomar off the New York Giants practice squad. Here is some background on Bomar. Etc.
