The Timberwolves waived DerMarr Johnson this morning to get their roster to 17 before they depart for London this afternoon.

I thought they might keep him around a little longer because he missed a good part of training-camp contact practices while they waited for paperwork to clear from Europe.

Don't expect John Thomas to go on the trip either. He's still on the roster, but missed much of camp with a bad hamstring and won't go overseas.

Of course, Jonny Flynn is staying behind, too, to rehab his hip.

The Wolves are at some point going to get their roster down to 14, although that might not be until Flynn is healthier. They want an extra roster spot cleared in case they have a chance to be opportunistic and pick up a player somewhere down the line.

That means Thomas, Maurice Ager and, in time, Jason Hart will be waived. They probably will keep Hart as their third point guard for a while though, while Flynn recuperates.

The Wolves will stop in Portland, Maine, late this afternoon and will practice and have dinner there before they jump back on their chartered jet and head to London, where they will arrive midday Friday.

They play the Lakers Monday there at the O2 Arena and the Knicks Wednesday in Paris.
