There has been a lot of speculation about what the Vikings will do with their backup quarterback situation, particularly veteran Sage Rosenfels and rookie Joe Webb.

The Vikings likely will only keep three on the roster so they could try and get Webb through waivers and onto the practice squad or put him on the 53-man roster as the No. 3 quarterback.

Webb was asked after Tuesday's practice if he's confident there's a spot for him on the team.

"I'm pretty sure there is," he said. "Coaches, they highly recommended and liked what I did so far so I'm just going to continue to do what I do."

Webb likely will play the fourth quarter in Thursday's final preseason game against the Denver Broncos. He realizes it's probably the final game action he will see for a while.

"Yeah it's a big game," he said. "Of course I'm not going to get to play in the season with Brett Favre here so just go out there to show the coaches that I can play this game, especially at this level of competition. So I just want to go out there and have fun."

Webb remains extremely raw as a quarterback, but he obviously is physically gifted. He said he's made a lot of improvement since the start of camp and gave a few examples.

"Just looking down the field more and making sure I go through my reads, hit my guys when they break open," he said. "It's a lot different from college ball. The windows are a lot smaller than college. Just do those things and take care of the ball."

Webb said the coaching staff has given him a lot of positive feedback about his future prospects as an NFL quarterback, but he knows that doesn't mean anything unless he puts in the time to develop his skills.

"You can't get comfortable," he said. "You've got to continue to play your best game. You can't sit back and let coaches tell you you did a great job this day. You can't sit back for the next practice. You've got to keep on performing. So that's my duty."
