When the new Green Line light-rail service begins in June, Metro Transit will celebrate the occasion by distributing commemorative posters.
What will the posters look like? That will be determined by a contest that's currently underway.
Anybody 18 and older has until April 11 to submit works that depict the Metro Green Line and build on a "Connections" theme. Artwork that features communities along the 11-mile line which runs from downtown Minneapolis to downtown St. Paul also is encouraged, transit officials said.
A panel including community representatives from neighborhoods where there are stations along the line will narrow the entries down to five finalists by April 25. The public can vote for their favorite from April 28 to May 9 at Metro Transit's website.
First place is a year of free rides on Metro Transit buses and trains, $500 and a professionally-framed copy of the artwork. Runners-up will receive Go-To Cards valid for three months of transit rides.
All finalists will have their artwork displayed at Union Depot on June 14, when Green Line service is set to begin.
