Before Election Day, the Minnesota Republican Party plans to spend more than $100,000 going after both Democratic Gov. Mark Dayton and U.S. Sen. Al Franken.

Ads will focus on Dayton's term in office and accuse Franken of hiding from his support for President Obama, according to Republican Party spokeswoman Brittni Palke. The party plans to spend six figures on television ads in each race by Election Day, Palke said.

The spots will be the first television ads the Republican Party has broadcast during this year's election.

The Franken ad is the 15-second one Republican challenger Mike McFadden is already running, just underwritten in part by the party. The ad's disclaimer, according to the party, says, "Republican Party of Minnesota and McFadden for Senate. Approved by Mike McFadden."

The Dayton ad, which can be viewed here, says "Incompetence has consequences. It's time to stop the incompetence. Stop Mark Dayton."

The ad does not mention Republican challenger Jeff Johnson by name.

The Minnesota DFL Party said earlier this fall that it would spend at least $1 million supporting Dayton's re-election in television ads.

The Democratic Alliance for a Better Minnesota has spent more than $2 million on television ads trashing Johnson and recently said it would about $1 million in ads going after Franken opponent McFadden.

The Alliance will spend between $400,000 and $500,000 on ads to continue its anti-Johnson campaign.
