Dayton to announce new running mate at Tuesday rally

Posted by: under Gov. Mark Dayton, Democrats Updated: February 3, 2014 - 4:08 PM

Gov. Mark Dayton will name his new running mate Tuesday morning at the AFL-CIO headquarters in St. Paul.

Dayton will make the announcement at a 10 a.m. campaign rally.

The governor has been quietly vetting possible running mates since Yvonne Prettner Solon announced last month that she will not be joining Dayton in his quest for a second term.

Much of the speculation has centered on Dayton’s chief of staff, Tina Smith, and former House Majority Leader Tony Sertich, who now heads the Iron Range Resource and Rehabilitation Board.

Another top candidate, DFL Sen. Katie Sieben of Cottage Grove, announced last week she was not a candidate for the post.
