Gov. Mark Dayton and legislative leaders will give the state an update on their budget talks this Sunday afternoon.

The governor cut short his fishing opener getaway on Saturday to return to the Capitol for another round of budget talks. Those talks ended after four and a half hour with no update from the participants. Lawmakers have just days to pass a raft of budget bills before the end of the 2013 session.

"Getting close," Senate Majority Leader Tom Bakk told waiting reporters as he arrived at the governor's office Saturday. He joined House Speaker Paul Thissen, House Majority Leader Erin Murphy and other DFL caucus leaders and Dayton administration officials at the weekend meeting.

The governor and legislative leaders are trying to agree on tax and budget targets. The House is calling for $2.6 billion in new tax revenue over the next two years, while the Senate has proposed $1.8 billion.

Dayton, Bakk and Thissen will offer a status update on their budget talks at 2:30 p.m. Sunday at the Capitol.

The Minnesota Legislature is set to adjourn on May 20.
