U.S. Rep. Michele Bachmann announced Thursday that she raised $1.7 million for her re-election campaign in the second quarter of this year.

The Republican incumbent, whose Sixth Congressional District was changed by redistricting this year, outraised her Democratic challenger by a margin of four to one, according to a message she sent her followers on Twitter Thursday afternoon.

"Thank you to my supporters!" she tweeted. "You gave more than 40,000 contributions, averaging <$45. More than $1.7 million from so many is humbling."

Bachmann's full July quarterly report to the Federal Election Commission will not be available until the weekend, her spokesman said.

"It just goes to demonstrate her widespread appeal," said spokesman Chase Kroll.

Bachmann's challenger, Democratic businessman Jim Graves, announced today that he has raised more than $400,000 for his campaign, including $150,000 of his own money.
