Bye-bye June.

Tuesday night a joint House-Senate panel stripped a provision to move the state's primary from August to June from a state elections bill. That means the earlier date, long a goal for some lawmakers, almost certainly will not win approval this year.

Earlier the joint panel had approved the June election but when the measure returned the Senate for approval on Monday, senators turned it back to committee on a 35-30 vote.

The state switched its primary from September to August two years ago.
