The Minnesota Capitol will be quiet on Wednesday to allow lawmakers to attend late Sen. Gary Kubly's funeral.
Kubly, who has been memorialized as a thoroughly decent man and lawmaker, died on Friday. The DFLer from Granite Falls had ALS, also known as Lou Gerig's disease.
The Senate has canceled all action on Wednesday, according to Senate Majority Leader Dave Senjem. The House has canceled all action until late afternoon. The House will hold a floor session at 4:30 and continue evening action Wednesday.
Granite Falls Lutheran Church will hold services for Kubly at 11 a.m. Wednesday.
During Monday's floor action, Senators held a moment of silence for their colleague and remembered him.
Senjem called him, "one great Senator." DFL Sen. John Marty, who was Kubly's desk mate, said Kubly represented exactly what voters say they wanted from a lawmaker.
"I rise to say Sen. Kubly was my friend," said Senate Minority Leader Tom Bakk. "He was a man who worked with a quiet demeanor...Whether you are a farmer, a collect student, a teacher or a nurse, in fact if you are any Minnesotan who wants state government to make your life better, I would simply say you too have lost a friend."
