Poll: Obama up in Minnesota by 10 points

Last update: August 21, 2008 - 10:20 AM

A Minnesota Public Radio and University of Minnesota Humphrey Institute poll shows that Democrat Barack Obama has a double-digit cushion in Minnesota Republican John McCain in the race for president.

The telephone survey, in which 763 likely voters were interviewed from Aug. 7-17, found that 48 said they support Obama and 38 percent said they back John McCain. Another 10 percent were undecided. The margin of sampling error was plus or minus 3.6 percentage points.

Other recent polls of Minnesota voters have found the Obama-McCain race to be a virtual dead heat, when margin of error is considered.

MPR also is reporting that its poll found that 9 percent in the state errantly believe that Obama is Muslim and 42 percent didn't know that he is a practicing Christian.
