OTHER STUDIES

The study released Wednesday is one of four that have been undertaken since the I-35W bridge collapse. The others:

• The National Transportation Safety Board is investigating the structural cause of the Aug. 1 collapse. Its report is expected later this year.

• The Wiss, Janney, Elstner Associates consulting firm was hired by the Pawlenty administration to do a parallel investigation.

• The legislative auditor issued a more general report in February on the state's transportation systems, saying that the condition of Minnesota's highways was declining and that without new money, the state would be able to do little more than maintain current roadways. The state's bridge program got generally high marks. The report came out before the Legislature adopted a $6.6 billion transportation bill.
