Career: Lawyer at Robins, Kaplan, Miller & Ciresi, 1971-present; chairman of executive board since 1995. Was lead lawyer for Minnesota in 1998 case against tobacco companies that resulted in $6 billion settlement for the state.
Political career: Ran for DFL nomination for U.S. Senate in 2000; finished second to Mark Dayton in September primary.
