Dems air ad calling on Coleman to quit

Last update: April 15, 2009 - 5:17 PM

Democrats trying to pressure Norm Coleman to abandon his fight for his former Senate seat have added a radio ad to their arsenal.

The ad, set to run on Twin Cities talk radio stations, was unveiled by the Democratic National Committee (DNC) Tuesday, one day after a three-judge panel rejected Coleman's legal arguments and declared Al Franken the winner of the race.

"Enough is enough," the ad's announcer declares, echoing the sound bite offered Tuesday by Tim Kaine, the DNC chairman.

"Minnesota deserves two senators and voters deserve to have their verdict stand without delay," the ad continues. "Call Norm Coleman ... Tell him that it is time to concede."

The ad is the latest volley in a roiling national debate over the Senate battle, which has left the state with only one senator for 100 days.

Even as Democrats have leaned on Coleman to give up, Republicans have called on him to fight on, gearing up a fundraising effort to finance a continued legal battle that could ultimately lead to the U.S. Supreme Court.

The DNC didn't disclose the extent of its ad buy, but Minnesota Public Radio reported that the ad would run on KSTP-AM and AM950.
