Potential challenger to Walz exits the race

Last update: December 11, 2007 - 6:59 PM

Actuary and school board official Mark Meyer dropped out of the GOP field for the congressional seat that covers southern Minnesota, narrowing to three the group seeking to unseat Rep. Tim Walz.

Meyer said Tuesday that he wasn't able to raise enough money. He said he was supporting state Rep. Randy Demmer of Hayfield. Also running are state Sen. Dick Day of Owatonna and Brian Davis, a Mayo Clinic doctor.

Duane Quam, chairman of the Olmsted County Republican Party, said Meyer's endorsement would benefit Demmer but called it a "very competitive three-way race."
