NYC mayoral hopeful Anthony Weiner under attack over a slur used by prospective voter

NEW YORK — New York City mayoral hopeful Anthony Weiner is being criticized for his soft reaction to a voter who used a slur when describing his Democratic opponent Christine Quinn.

In an audio recording from a Saturday event published by The Washington Post, the woman tells Weiner she wouldn't vote for "what's her name" and uses a slur for a lesbian.

Weiner says, "You really shouldn't talk that way about people," then tells her it's "OK" and "not your fault" when she apologizes.

Assemblywoman Deborah Glick, state Sen. Brad Hoylman and the Empire State Pride Agenda say Weiner should have spoken more strongly.

Weiner says he recalls only admonishing the woman and didn't mean to create any other impression.

Quinn says Weiner contacted her to clarify the interaction and she appreciated it.
