About the data

Last update: November 13, 2007 - 3:19 PM

The campaign finance data was obtained from the Federal Election Commission. Under federal law, candidates are required to file quarterly reports that summarize fundraising and spending, as well as itemize every donation of $200 or more, including donor name, city and state of residence and employment information. In practice, some itemized donations have incomplete or inaccurate employment information and the city and state indicate the donor's place of work.

Our searchable data comprises contributions made by Minnesota-based donors to presidential candidates and all donors that gave to Minnesota candidates. A negative number indicates a refunded donation or a reversal of an error.
