A new book on the Franken-Coleman 2008 senate race titled “A Funny Thing Happened on the Way to the Senate” is hitting stores in October.

The book, which is being published by Minneapolis-based Zenith Press, is written by Wy Spano, director of the University of Minnesota Duluth’s Master of Advocacy and Political Leadership program.

Subtitled “Franken vs. Coleman and the Decline and Fall of Civilized Politics,” Spano’s book examines the race between Al Franken and Norm Coleman starting in 2002, after Sen. Paul Wellstone was killed in a plane crash during his campaign against Coleman.

Franken and Coleman’s race, which Franken won only after a months-long recount battle, was recently named one of the 10 “nastiest” Senate races in recent memory by the Washington Post.

Zenith’s marketing manager John Wurm said the book will likely hit stores the first week of October. While Zenith is a publishing company that’s focused on military and aviation books, Wurm said they are also trying to expand into other topics like politics and current events.
