Sequester hits McDonough, Obama's chief of staff

President Obama's staff, including Chief of Staff and Stillwater native Denis McDonough, will feel the effects of across-the-board federal spending cuts firsthand.

The $85 billion in cuts known as sequestration will hit most White House staffers with daylong furloughs over the next two weeks.

Commissioned officers, including McDonough, who, as assistants to the president don't qualify as leave-earners, will have to take a pay cut commensurate with the planned furlough.

White House staff declined to reveal the amount of McDonough's pay cut. The White House has not released a report on 2013 staff salaries, but McDonough's predecessor, Jacob Lew, was paid $172,200 in 2012.
