Gov. Mark Dayton has named John Linc Stine as the new commissioner of the Minnesota Pollution Control Agency.

Stine, who currently serves as acting head of the agency, will replace Commissioner Paul Aasen, who is leaving to take a job with the city of Minneapolis. Stine will take office on May 14.

“Mr. Stine comes highly recommended by Commissioner Aasen,” Dayton said in a statement announcing Stine’s appointment. “He has dedicated his entire career to public service in Minnesota state agencies, and I am confident Commissioner Stine will be an excellent commissioner of the Minnesota Pollution Control Agency, as was Commissioner Aasen.”

The Minnesota Pollution Control Agency monitors environmental quality and enforces state regulations.

Stine previously served as deputy commissioner of pollution control, overseeing the state’s environmental review and permit process, as well as the department’s budget, personnel and enforcement. Dayton noted that Stine has 30 years of experience in soil conservation, hydrology and environmental program implementation.
