During last week's Congressional recess, U.S. Rep. Michele Bachmann, R-Minn., traveled to Israel where she met with high-ranking leaders, including Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu, to discuss intelligence and security issues.

"Many times, I heard that if the United States is serious about stopping Iran, we should consider moving up the timeline for implementing the toughest possible sanctions against Iran. I see no reason for delaying the implementation of these sanctions," a statement from her office said, in part.

"I also head that if Iran succeeds in becoming a nuclear power, then profound consequences to future Americans safety interests are at stake. I agree. American must prevent a nuclear Iran. By doing so, terrorist groups and rogue nations will understand will understand they cannot act in contradiction of established International Atomic Energy Agency rules to protect the safety of humanity. Furthermore, America stands by her allies. We stand by Israel."

Last week's trip was Bachmann's fifth visit to the Israel. This time she went as a member of the House Permanent Select Committee on Intelligence. She is at least the second member of Minnesota's Congressional delegation to visit the region this year; Sen. Al Franken, D-Minn., visited Israel during Congress' recess in February.
