Democratic “Super PAC” hits Cravaack with TV ad

A new “Super PAC” devoted to winning back the House for Democrats has launched a TV ad against freshman Rep. Chip Cravaack.

The ad is the latest to go on the air in the Eighth District — both for and against the Minnesota Republican — in the early going of what’s likely to be a flood of outside money into the Eighth District for the 2012 race.

House Majority PAC has already run a radio ad against Cravaack, and there are plenty of others spending money in the Eighth, too.

The Democratic group plans to run the ad on cable TV for a week starting Friday.

The ad attacks Cravaack on Medicare and oil subsidies, as well as for leasing a car with his congressional office budget. Cravaack spent $1,700 in the first quarter leasing a 2011 Chevy Equinox, which is permissible by House rules.

Cravaack’s spokesman said the car is necessary because Cravaack and his staff have to get around a large district, and leasing a car is cheaper than reimbursing for mileage.
