Former Gov. Tim Pawlenty is first on TV in Iowa.

Pawlenty's campaign is buying nearly $50,000 in ads that will air from June 23 to July 3 in Des Moines and five other Iowa TV markets, Politico reported.

Pawlenty spokesman Alex Conant confirmed the campaign is buying ads in Iowa.

Former Pennsylvania Sen. Rick Santorum has been on the radio in Iowa and other early primary states, but Pawlenty's ads will be the first 2012 television spots there. The ads are part of Pawlenty's campaign strategy to focus heavily on Iowa, the first-in-the-nation caucus state.
