Rep. Kline after 2010 "Top Gun" victory

It wasn’t the battle of the budget, but a couple of Minnesota lawmakers won “Top Gun” honors at a shootout Tuesday sponsored by the Congressional Sportsmen’s Caucus.

Republican John Kline, a retired Marine, and Democrat Collin Peterson, an avid hunter, were the top shooters in their respective caucuses, blasting 12-gauge shotguns in the annual bipartisan rounds of trap, skeet and sporting clays in Glen Dale, Maryland.

For Kline, the Republican Top Gun award is the fourth in five years. Peterson was the Dems’ Top Gun in 2007.

The other Minnesotans in the Congressional Sportsmen’s Caucus are Sen. Al Franken and Rep. Tim Walz, both Democrats, as well as Republican Reps. Michele Bachmann, Erik Paulsen and Chip Cravaack.
