Gov. Mark Dayton Thursday said an immigration order left behind from his predecessor was a "political stunt."

Last week, the Democratic governor let the order, which authorized state officials to work with and cooperate with federal officials on immigration laws, lapse last week.

"The key elements of that...are ongoing and doesn't require an executive order to continue," Dayton said.

Dayton, a Democrat, said of the order from Republican Gov. Tim Pawlenty: "I think it was basically a political stunt on his part."

Pawlenty will soon make official a run for president.
