Rep. Michele Bachmann said Tuesday that First Lady Michele Obama's promoting of tax breaks for breastfeeding is evidence of a "nanny state."

In an interview on Laura Ingraham's radio show, Bachmann said that pushing tax incentives for breastfeeding is something coming from the "hard left."

"I've given birth to five babies, and I've breastfed every single one of these babies," Bachmann said. "To think that government has to go out and buy my breast pump for my babies, I mean, you wanna talk about the nanny state — I think you just got the new definition of the nanny state."

Coming on the anniversary of her "Let's Move" program, the first lady plans to speak out about breastfeeding as a health issue, Politics Daily reported, while a ruling by the IRS last week said breast pumps and other nursing supplies could be counted as tax breaks.

The First Lady touted breastfeeding as a way to fight child obesity. "What we're learning now is that early intervention is key. Breastfeeding. Kids who are breastfed longer have a lower tendency to be obese," Obama told reporters last week.
