Former Minnesota GOP Chairman Ron Carey, who served a brief stint as U.S. Rep. Michele Bachmann's chief of staff, has told the Associated Press that she's not ready for the White House. The quote, coming on the eve of Bachmann's keynote speech to the Conservative Political Action Conference (CPAC) in Washington, D.C., is not likely to help her in Saturday's presidential straw poll, which also includes former Minnesota Gov. Tim Pawlenty. "While she passes the conservative test, my opinion from my association with her is she's not going to be an electable candidate for us," Carey told AP reporter Brian Bakst. "And even if she were elected I don't believe she would be ready for the position of the president of the United States." Carey supported another social conservative for president in 2008: former Arkansas Gov. Mike Huckabee.
