Gov.-elect Mark Dayton will meet Monday with National Football League commissioner Roger Goodell, a week after the Metrodome inflatable roof collapsed and forced the Minnesota Vikings to play elsewhere.

Though the meeting had been scheduled before the roof collapse, the session is expected to concentrate on the Vikings' desire for a new, publicly-funded stadium to replace the 28-year-old Metrodome. The meeting will take place before Monday night's game between the Vikings and Chicago Bears, which will be played outdoors at the University of Minnesota's TCF Bank Stadium.

In a statement, Dayton said: "As I said throughout my campaign, any new stadium must first benefit the people of Minnesota. If it's 8,000 construction jobs over the next three years and those tax revenues, the contracts with Minnesota businesses and those tax revenues, and the other economic benefits to our State exceed any public costs, then it is a good deal for the people of Minnesota and I will support it.

"I will also insist that no general revenue funds be used for building any new stadium. I look forward to meeting with Commissioner Goodell," he added.
