Recount board to discuss frivolous challenges Friday

The Minnesota canvassing board Friday will discuss the mounting number of frivolous challenges.

During the gubernatorial recount, which started Monday and will continue into next week, candidates' representatives have been allowed to challenge local officials' read on ballots -- even if the challenges are without merit.

Those so-called frivolous challenges, which have come particularly from Republican Tom Emmer's representatives, have slowed down the counting and caused some tension, local officials said.

It is unclear what the state canvassing board, made up of two Supreme Court justices, two local judges and the Secretary of State, will do with the challenges when they meet at 2 p.m. Friday.
