DFLer Mark Dayton and Republican Tom Emmer would be allowed to spend some of their election campaign funds on the post-election recount under a draft advisory opinion to be considered Wednesday by the Minnesota Campaign Finance and Public Discloure Board.

The draft opinion, to be taken up Wednesday afternoon by the board, would allow use of leftover funds from the candidates campaigns, as well as money from party units, to help pay for legal and other fees related to the recount.

While the contributions from the pre-election committees would be reported, the way they are spent by special recount committees wouldn't necessarily be disclosed.
