Gov. Tim Pawlenty Thursday hopes for lots of joint appearances in the near future.

He said he hopes to appear at Republican gubernatorial candidate Tom Emmer's fundraiser with Mitt Romney on Monday.

"Mitt and I are friends. I like him. The last time he was here, he and I spent some social time together…There's no tension or problem with me and Mitt," Pawlenty said.

Tension? Oh, yeah, that could be the tension of Pawlenty looking like he's aiming to run for president in 2012 and Romney looking to do the same.

Pawlenty's -- and Emmer's -- appearance at the fundraiser is contingent on the Monday special session ending in time to let them go.

If they're both there, it won't the last time that Emmer and Pawlenty will appear in the same place.

Although there's been some murmuring about Pawlenty recent underscoring of his support for Emmer, the current Republican governor said he long ago endorsed the GOP nominee to replace him.

"I was with him Monday for an event for the Republican party," Pawlenty said. "On the schedule is some rallies, I'm going to do some campaigning with him in late October, right before the election....I'm doing all I can to help Tom Emmer get elected."

An Emmer campaign spokesman said the campaign is still working out details of the Pawlenty events.

Pawlenty also said "stay tuned" on whether he cuts an ad for Emmer.

Pawlenty's also going to be campaigning for a lot of other folks before Nov. 2.

"I'm traveling, I'm campaigning a lot between now and the election," the governor said, adding that has made sure that his political travel doesn't get in the way of his job in the state.

The governor Friday will be in New York for a Republican Governor's Association meeting and then campaign in New Hampshire for local candidates on Saturday.
