Michele Bachmann
BLAINE, Minn. - Democrats Tarryl Clark and Maureen Reed square off Saturday for their party's backing to take on Republican Rep. Michele Bachmann.
6th District Democrats will meet Saturday in Blaine to endorse a candidate.
Clark is considered the favorite. The state senator from St. Cloud has support from a slew of unions who play a key role in conferring the Democratic-Farmer-Labor Party endorsement.
Reed is a physician from Stillwater who has promised to run in an August primary. She ran for lieutenant governor under the Independence Party banner four years ago.
Democrats have a tough slog ahead in Minnesota's most conservative congressional district covering the northern Twin Cities suburbs and stretching west past St. Cloud. Bachmann is seeking a third term.
