News outlets are reporting that Alaska Gov. Sarah Palin announced she will step down at a press conference in Wasilla.
She said the "decision has been in the works for awhile." KTUU-TV reported that there was no immediate word as to why she resigned, though speculation has been rampant that the former vice presidential candidate is gearing up for a run at the 2012 Republican presidential nomination.
