Fergus Falls band to march in Obama inaugural parade

Last update: December 8, 2008 - 9:39 PM

The Fergus Falls High School marching band will be among 100 selected to march in the Inaugural Parade on Jan. 20 for Barack Obama, the school has announced.

Band director Jim Iverson said about 1,300 units applied to the Armed Services Inaugural Committee to participate in the parade, which will mark the inauguration of Obama as the nation's 44th president.

The 120 students in the band -- accompanied by Iverson and fellow directors Scott Kummrow and Denis Wiese -- will depart Jan. 16 and return Jan. 21. Iverson said the office of Minnesota Sen. Amy Klobuchar worked closely with the Fergus Falls band directors to prepare their application, and band members will attend a Klobuchar-hosted reception for Minnesota guests Jan. 19.
