The House DFL caucus announced Tuesday that starting on Thursday, they will fan out across the state to talk about Minnesota's education system with teachers, administrators and other school leaders.

The K-12 Education Roundtable Tour will start in the Anoka-Hennepin School District, the state's largest.

In announcing the tour, which also will continue next week in outstate Minnesota, caucus members made it clear they will lean hard on the funding shift that was part of the budget deal that ended the state government shutdown in July.

Because of the shift, the state's school districts are owed $3.45 billion, according to the caucus.

In a press release, House Minority Leader Paul Thissen is quoted as saying the budget shifts "are stealing our children's futures right out of their hands."

The tour was announced on the same day most Minnesota students headed back to the classroom.
