Former Gov. Tim Pawlenty will announce a 16-person fundraising team to supporters on Monday, a major component of his 2012 presidential run.

Pawlenty's staff said he will ask potential major donors to hold off making contributions until April, the start of the second-quarter for fundraising. Pawlenty hasn't raised much money since January as he's focused on meet-and-greet efforts through his book tour before starting his exploratory committee.

By forming an exploratory committee, Pawlenty is able to begin fundraising and hiring staff for his presidential run even before he formally declares his White House bid.

Fundraising will be among Pawlenty's biggest challenges, as he must compete for big-dollar Republican donors with candidates who already have a national network and bigger profile. Pawlenty's first fundraising numbers as a presidential candidate, covering the period of April to June, will be a major test of his viability.

His fundraising team will be led by Brian Haley, who served as deputy finance director for the McCain-Palin campaign in 2008. Haley was also finance director of Pawlenty's Freedom First political action committee.

Katie McBreen, who worked for former Massachusetts Gov. Mitt Romney in 2008, will be tapped as deputy finance director.

Trisha Hamm will be Pawlenty's Minnesota finance director. She was his gubernatorial campaign's finance coordinator and political director and also worked on his Freedom First PAC.

Other staffers include former fundraisers for newly-elected Wisconsin Sen. Ron Johnson, California 2010 Senate candidate Carly Fiorina, Virginia Gov. Bob McDonnell, South Dakota Sen. John Thune, Florida Gov. Rick Scott and the Bush family. Many have experience with the 2008 McCain campaign.
