Ciresi vs. Franken

Last update: August 8, 2007 - 6:35 PM

Mike Ciresi

Background: A plus if he can package it as an impressive courtroom record setting right corporate wrongs.

Political skills: A question mark after his unsuccessful 2000 Senate bid in which he alienated some party regulars by refusing to respect their endorsement.

Image: Lawyers, especially rich ones, aren't an easy sell.

Style: Smart, tough, detailed arguments -- the lawyer again. But can he be lovable?

AL Franken

Background: Star power as a hip humorist, but a long trail of earthy, controversial remarks may not seem senatorial.

Political skills: First time out but has worked tirelessly and won many allies.

Image: Hollywood, Big Apple aura not a plus with all outstate swing voters.

Style: Working toward a cautious but still-authentic voice. Impressing many with just-folks charm.
