The prospect of an open congressional seat had many potential replacements salivating Monday while others demurred to express interest for a later date. The status so far:

• Former state Rep. Jeff Johnson, 2006 candidate for attorney general

• State Sen. Geoff Michel, Edina

DFLers

• State Rep. Melissa Hortman, Brooklyn Park

• Andy Luger, former federal prosecutor, 2006 candidate for Hennepin County attorney

CONSIDERED POSSIBLE CANDIDATES:

• DFL state Sen. Terri Bonoff, Minnetonka

• GOP state Rep. Erik Paulsen, Plymouth

• Former Democratic U.S. Rep. Bill Luther

• DFLer Hubert (Buck) Humphrey IV, 2002 candidate for Minnesota secretary of state
