Helen Healy examined patient Svetlana Jones, 32, of Maplewood who is 30-weeks pregnant on Thursday at her office in St. Paul, MN. Helen Healy is a naturopathic doctor, who combines conventional with alternative healing methods. Twelve years ago, the state medical board tried to shut down her practice, accusing her of practicing medicine without a license. Now, for the first time, the state legislature has passed a law recognizing naturopathic doctors and giving Healy, and 25 other Minnesotans who have graduated from accredited naturopathic schools, the freedom to practice as they've been trained.
