Governed by the same semi-automatic action of most sporting rifles, black rifles are often confused by the general public to be ''assault'' rifles. They are not. Assault rifles more typically are used by the military and police, and in many cases are fully automatic, meaning they will repeatedly fire so long as the trigger is pulled. Automatic rifles among the general public are strictly regulated, and are available for possession only by tightly controlled permits.
