Hunter Pence fractured left forearm after being hit by a pitch against the Chicago Cubs on Thursday night.
X-rays confirmed as much, and as a result, the Giants' Iron Man will begin the season on the disabled list.
Pence was diagnosed with a non-displaced ulnar fracture and was being fitted with a cast; he is expected to be sidelined for 6-8 weeks, meaning the earliest he could return is mid-April.
Darvish leaves outing
Rangers ace Yu Darvish left his spring training debut because of tightness in his right triceps after pitching a scoreless first inning against Kansas City. Darvish gave up a leadoff single before retiring the next three batters he faced. He threw 10 of 12 pitches for strikes before leaving for precautionary reasons.
Lee faces hitters
Cliff Lee faced major league hitters for the first time since July 31, when his season ended because of an elbow injury.
"I definitely do not want to go out the way things happened last year, said the 36-year-old Lee, who started only 13 games for the Phillies in 2014. "I want to go out there and have fun and feel good, and make it a positive thing instead of a battle physically. It's my job to come into camp every day and give myself the best chance to pitch successfully."
The 2008 AL Cy Young Award winner, pitching in the final year of his contract, gave up two hits in two innings against Houston.
"I got through it with two zeros," Lee said. "I'm just trying to make sure the elbow is strong so if something is going to happen, it's not because it's weak.
